I understand. With so many different types of bike shed to choose from, it’s difficult to find a one that meets your requirements and won’t fall apart within a few months!
That’s why I’ve put together this detailed guide covering and reviewing the best bike storage sheds.
This article will you work out what type of bike shed you require, what size bike shed you need and later on in the article I’ll recommend several of the best bike storage sheds.
I’ve included several different styles and designs of bike shed towards the bottom of the article. You’ll also find links to retailers that each shed can be purchased from, at competitive prices.
Just below I explain the criteria I used for selecting the best bike storage sheds.
I provide a rating (from 0-10) for each of the criteria for every shed I recommend. This allows you to distinguish which bike shed best meets your needs.
This is one of my longer articles, as bike sheds are a reasonably significant investment. Reading the information below will help you find the most suitable shed for your bikes.

How to Choose the Best Bike Shed - Factors to Consider
Security
Security for many people will be a deciding factor when choosing a new bicycle shed.
The best bike sheds come with built-in locking mechanisms.
These locking mechanisms provide additional security for the bicycles you store inside and act as a deterrent for thieves who’re up to no good!
High security, bicycle storage solutions tend to be slightly more expensive I’ve included a few premium bike sheds later on in the article.
Some bike sheds will also provide internal security elements; such as anchor points.
Anchor points & ground anchors, provide an easy and secure way to lock your bicycles inside the shed.
If a thief managed to bust your bike shed open, they’d be unable to remove the bikes inside without heavy-duty tools.
Whilst some sheds don’t come fitted with anchoring points, these can be fitted fairly easily yourself.
Weatherproofing
Leaving a bike exposed to the elements for long periods of time isn’t a great idea.
That being said, you’d be surprised how many people leave their bike uncovered outside!
Most of the best bike sheds are completely weatherproof, which means your bike will stay clean and dry.
If you choose to store your bike outside in the rain, over time, you’ll spend more on bicycle maintenance, than a good quality bike shed would cost!
Keep your bike somewhere sheltered. Or at least use a good quality bike cover [Amazon].
Accessibility
If like me, you have multiple bikes that you regularly use, it can be a pain to take every bike out of your shed, just to remove the bike at the back.
The traditional “box” style bike shed is space-efficient but isn’t necessarily the most practical choice.
Instead, a horizontal storage bike will provide easier access to your bicycles.
I cover the different types of bike shed just below.
Quality of Materials
If you buy a cheap and cheerful bike shed there’s only going to be one outcome. You’ll shortly be back at square one with a flimsy, breaking shed that needs replacing.
This is because the majority of cheap bicycle sheds use substandard materials and components which aren’t designed to last.
A cheaper shed is still likely to be made with lower quality parts, but there are several budget bike sheds which provide great all-round usability.
I’ve included these in my recommendations.
Thin wooden panelling is often found on cheaper bike sheds. It’s is a prime example of something you should look out for and avoid where possible.
The same goes for metal and plastic bike sheds. If they’re super cheap, they’re likely to be lower quality.
Size
When we’re talking about bike sheds, size matters. Bicycles come in many different shapes and sizes, so it’s important to buy a shed that offers sufficient space, whilst fitting the space you have.
When deciding on the size of your bike shed, it’s important to consider how many bikes you’ll be storing.
You may also want to store additional items in your shed, such as cycling accessories or garden tools.
If you’re thinking to yourself “what size bike shed do I need?”, keep reading. Below I’ll help you choose the right size shed for your bikes.
But, before I help you find the right shed size, you should decide where you want your shed to go and measure the dimensions of the area!
By taking clear measurements of your selected area, you’ll be able to find the best bike shed much more easily!
The short guide below will help you decide which size bike shed you need for your bikes.
Ease of Assembly
No one wants a bike shed that’ll take weeks to assemble.
Some bike sheds come in more individual parts than others, meaning it will take more time and effort to put it together.
Some sheds will also have better instructions than others. This will also effect how easily you’re able to assemble the shed.
To give each shed an ease of assembly score, I spoke with manufacturers of each shed and asked them for an average assembly time for each shed.
I also looked at reviews across the internet to determine how easily users had been able to put their sheds together.
The higher the score, the easier to assemble.

What Size Bike Shed Do I Need?
How Many Bikes Do You Have?
If you live with other people, it’s likely you’ll have several bikes between you.
By working out how many bikes you have and their overall dimensions, you’ll be able to work out what shed size you need.
With my recommendations below, I’ve also included how many bikes each shed is suitable for.
The sizes below refer to horizontal storage, rectangular based bike sheds.
If you want to store your cycling accessories in your bike shed, several of the best bike sheds (recommended below) provide additional space for shelving and storage hooks.
Bikes can be stored in a variety of ways, so take the measurements below with a pinch of salt.
Several of the best bike sheds I’ve recommended below are able to fit more bikes than these measurements advise. These estimations are made using standard bike measurements.
What Are the Average Dimensions of a Bicycle?
Different types of bike will require different amounts of space in a bike shed.
Below I supply the average dimensions for the most popular types of bike.
If you want to work out exactly how much space your bikes will take up in a bike shed, use the short guide below to gather your own custom bike measurements.
Width : 15” – 17.3” (38cm – 44cm)
Length: 68” (175 cm)
Height: 41.3″ (105cm)
Width: 19.6” – 27.5” (50 – 70cm)
Length: 68” (175 cm)
Height: 41.3″ (105cm)
How to Measure the Dimensions of a Bicycle
1) Width – Take the reading across your handlebar (end to end)
2) Length – Measure the distance between your back of your rear tires and front of your front tire (end to end).
3) Height – Measure from the ground to the tallest point of your bike, saddle or handlebars.
Bear in mind that these readings are the longest and widest points of your bike. There are ways to store your bikes that reduce the amount of space needed per bike.
For example, store your bikes facing in alternating directions so that the handlebars and pedals don’t tangle with each other.
What Size Bike Shed Do You Need?
A bike shed for 2 bikes needs to have internal measurements of at least 6’ x 3’ (182cm x 91cm) for parallel storage or 5’ x 4’ (152cm x 121cm) for diagonal storage.
A bike shed for 3 bikes needs to have internal measurements of at least 6’ x 4’ (182cm x 121cm).
A bike shed for 4 bikes needs to have internal measurements of at least 6’ x 5’ (182cm x 151cm).
A bike shed for 5 bikes needs to have internal measurements of at least 6’ x 6’ (182cm x 181cm).
A bike shed for 6 bikes needs to have internal measurements of at least 6’ x 6’ (182cm x 181cm)
Different Styles of Bike Shed Explained
Classic Bike Shed (Pent or Apex)
Most bike sheds you see have two doors at the front and a sloped (pent) or pointed roof (apex). This is the classic style.
The classic style of bike shed tends to be made from wooden panels, but you can also find metal and plastic versions available online.
This style of bike shed normally has two doors on the front for access to the bikes inside. You may find variations with one, larger single door or with no door at all.
With the majority of side access classic bike sheds, you can only remove the bikes in the order they were put in.
This means the more bikes you store inside, the more difficult it is to access the bike you want.
For those with 5 or 6 bikes, a vertical bike shed or the tunnel & forward access sheds might be more suitable.
Box & Lid Bike Shed
Box and lid style bike sheds are compact and space-effective.
This style of bike shed tends to be made from metal, but there are wooden and plastic versions available.
As you may have guessed, this type of bike shed has a lid which folds/lifts upwards, uncovering the bikes inside the shed.
There are normally doors on the front of these sheds, but there are several box style sheds that don’t use doors and open completely using a folding roof.
This style of shed often uses gas or spring-assisted roof to aid with accessing your bikes. This can be helpful if younger cyclists need to access their bikes.
Tunnel/Forward Access Bike Shed
Tunnel or Forward access bike sheds are a great choice.
These bike sheds offer access to your bikes from the front or rear and are capable of effectively storing multiple bikes at once.
If you have multiple bikes and need constant access to all of them a tunnel style bike shed will work well for you.
Normally inside these sheds, there’s some form of bike stand, either on the floor or the rear wall. This rack keeps your bikes upright and prevents them from falling over.
The one disadvantage of using a forward access bike shed is that they take up a larger amount of floor space than all other types of shed.
If you want constant access to all of your bikes, consider a tunnel shed, but make sure you have the room for it first!
Vertical Storage/Hanging Bike Shed
Vertical bike sheds store your bikes like clothes hanging in a wardrobe.
Vertical sheds require the least amount of ground space of any bike shed and provide excellent access to your bikes.
Normally bikes are hung from the wall or roof of a vertical shed, but they may also be placed onto a rack which keeps them upright.
Just like tunnel bike sheds, vertical storage sheds are less common and slightly harder to find.
If you have limited space in your yard/garden a vertical bike shed will serve you well.
Where the bikes are stored vertically, these sheds are taller than the other types of bike sheds, so bear that in mind.
DIY Bike Shed
If you know your way around a toolbox, building a DIY bike shed is another good option.
As all DIY bike sheds are custom built, they are all different. However, the easiest design to replicate is the traditional bike shed style.
Building a DIY Bike shed does take time, but it means that you’ll also be able to customise the dimensions of your bike shed.
This means your DIY bike shed will be as effective with the space you have as possible.
If you’re looking for the most secure bike shed possible, you should probably avoid DIY bike sheds.
Unless you’re able to weld metal, in which case I tip my hat to you and wish you luck!
Weather Shelter Bike Shed
If you’re simply looking for a bike shed that will shield your bike from the elements, a Weather Shelter Bike Shed will be a good choice.
Weather Shelters aren’t designed to provide additional security for your bike and simply keep your bike clean and dry.
Shelter bike sheds don’t use lockable doors, which means they provide quick and easy access to your bike.
They also tend to allow access to multiple bikes at once, making them a convenient choice.
You’ll just have to make sure that you’re using a good quality bike lock with this style of shed and are locking your bike to something strong.
A ground anchor or a Sheffield bike rack alongside one of these will work well!
Choose your preferred shed material, or find out more below.
Plastic, Wood or Metal? Which is Bike Shed is Best?
Plastic Bike Sheds
Plastic bike sheds are built for convenience. They require minimal effort to assemble and aren’t as heavy as metal or wooden bike sheds.
Plastic bike sheds are resistant to corrosion and won’t rot like a cheap wooden shed.
When compared to metal bike sheds, plastic will begin to show signs of wear and tear more quickly.
Wood and plastic bike sheds provide a similar level of security. Plastic doesn’t split or splinter like wood, but wood won’t melt or cut as easily as some plastics.
Plastic sheds can be difficult to customise or add additional security features to, unlike wooden sheds.
However, if you’re looking for convenience and a bike shed that’s good value for money, a plastic bike shed is a good choice.
Wooden Bike Sheds
Wooden bike sheds are the most popular choice, for a number of reasons.
Firstly, as explained above, wooden bike storage sheds are much easier to customise than plastic or metal sheds.
You could easily add additional storage features such as shelves and cupboards, or increase the security of the shed by adding a higher quality locking mechanism.
With plastic and metal sheds, customisations can be made, but it’s not as straight forward as with wooden bike sheds.
The best wooden bike sheds use treated wood, which is resistant to rot and won’t warp like low-grade wood.
Cheap wooden bike sheds tend to be flimsy and are made using low quality, poorly-treated wood.
If you want a natural, less industrial look, then a wooden bike shed will be a good choice.
Metal Bike Sheds
Metal bike sheds tend to be the most secure choice. Although this does depends on the overall quality of the bike shed you’re looking at.
Asgard bike sheds are extremely secure due to the high-quality metal they use.
Their sheds are made using galvanised steel which provides unrivalled resistance agaisnt all forms of attack.
Due to the cost of the materials used and their complex manufacturing process, metal sheds do tend to be more expensive than their wooden and plastic counterparts.
Asgard sell accessories such as shelves and hanging hooks which can be effortlessly installed in the majority of their sheds.
All bike sheds are delivered broken down in parts. If you can put together flat-pack IKEA furniture, you can put together a bike shed.
Once erected, metal sheds require extremely minimal maintenance, this will save you time and effort in the long run.

The Environmental Impact of Different Bike Sheds
In an ever-warming world, I believe it’s important to consider the environmental impact of every single purchase we make.
Whether it’s the food in your fridge or the bike shed you purchase, everything we consume has an impact on the world around us.
To grade the sustainability of a product you need to consider its environmental, economical and social impact. These factors are the three main pillars of sustainability.
Comparing how environmentally friendly bike sheds are is difficult without analysing individual manufacturers and models.
Manufacturers source their materials from different locations and suppliers. Some companies do their bit by opting for sustainably sourced materials, some aim for maximum profit.
As trees grow, they pull CO2 from the atmosphere. This is stored inside them for long periods of time.
The carbon stored in wooden products offsets almost all of the emissions produced during their production. This means wood is the most sustainable and eco-efficient choice of material for your bike shed.
– United Nations Agency
If you’re buying a wooden bike shed, look out for FSC approval. The Forest Stewardship Council promotes responsible management of forests across the globe.
As for metal and plastic bike sheds, they produce more emissions during their manufacturing.
They produce a very similar volume of emissions, so it’s worth looking at the environmental policy of the company you decide to buy from.
Whilst wood is the most sustainable option, It’s worth thinking about how long the shed you’re buying will last!
If you buy a cheap wooden bike shed, it’s probably not sustainably sourced wood and it’s likely to deteriorate and require replacing within several years.
A good quality metal bike shed may produce more emissions during its production but can last a lifetime.
Make sure you buy the best quality bike shed possible within your budget.
By spending slightly more on your bike shed (whichever material you decide on) it’s likely to last longer, be more secure and be easier to use on a daily basis.
The Most Environmentally Friendly Bike Shed?
If you’re able to, building your own DIY bike shed can be super sustainable as you’re in control when it comes to sourcing materials.
I chose to build my own bike shed. I used recycled wood from wooden pallets that had been discarded by construction companies and metal railing that I sourced second hand online.
By using reclaimed materials where possible, I drastically reduced the carbon footprint of my bike shed.
I also made sure it was built to last and was able to optimise its dimensions for the space I had available.
Towards the bottom of this article I picked three affordable DIY shed guides which will greatly assist you if you fancy building your own bike shed. Click here to view them.
If you don’t have the tools to build your own bike shed but want to be as sustainable as possible with your choice, why not look for a second-hand bike shed?
Reusing is almost always more sustainable than producing new. Reduce, reuse, recycle!

The Lifetime Shed won’t take long to assemble and its instructions are fairly easy to follow.

If the bike sheds reviewed above don’t provide enough space for your bikes, the Suncast Glidetop is a more space-efficient option.
The Glidetop is a tunnel style bike shed, which opens from the end rather than the side. This means the Suncast provides easier access to your bikes than a traditional bike shed.

Just like the other plastic bike sheds featured in this review, the Suncast Glidetop requires virtually zero maintenance once assembled.
The heavy-duty floor the Suncast uses is designed to cope with heavy lawnmowers and other garden equipment, so won’t struggle with the weight of your bikes.
You’re also able to lock the doors and lid using a padlock (not supplied).
The locking points are made of plastic, which means they aren’t as secure as the Keter Grande or the Rubbermaid (shown below). But they still provide an additional level of security for your bikes.
The Glidetop feature also allows you to slide half of the hardened plastic roof back. This opens up the Suncast plastic bike shed, again providing easier access to your bikes.

The Best Wooden Bike Storage Sheds
If you want a more eco-friendly shed, a wooden bike shed will work nicely.
Below I’ve included several different brands of bike sheds capable of storing 1-6 bikes.
I’ve spent days researching the different brands of wooden bike sheds available, so you can be sure these are the best wooden bike sheds money can buy.

Power are an up and coming, award winning shed manufacturer from the UK. They claim to sell the best quality wooden sheds available, and I describe them as: “the most durable wooden bike sheds ever made”.
A claim I found very hard to disprove when comparing this model to other wooden bike sheds.
This customisable wooden bike shed is available in a range of sizes capable of storing 1 – 6 bikes, starting at 6’x2’ and reaching 6’x6’.
You’re also able to choose which side of the shed you want the doors to be on. Power are the only company I know of that offer this level of customisation.
Unlike cheaper wooden sheds the Pent uses thick 12mm tongue and groove cladding, made from the best-quality Scandinavian wood available.
Even its floor and roof are made from the 12mm cladding, whereas other wooden sheds use OSB board which can rot faster if it gets damp.
Thanks to the use of slow grown timber Power provide a 10-year guarantee which will ensures their sheds will stay free from rot, decay or insect infestation.
Fits: 2-3 Adult Bikes
Assembly Time: 2 Hours
I spoke to Jack Sutcliffe, one of the founders of Power who let me know why power sheds are the best wooden bike sheds on the market.
Comparing the Power Pent Bike Shed to the Forest Apex Outdoor Store (seen below), Jack highlighted why power bike sheds are an excellent choice.
Use the drop down menu below to read more about the advantages of power sheds.
Jack's Reasons - Why You Should Choose a Power Bike Shed
“Our shed comes with bracing on the back of the door. The Forest Outdoor Store shed just has three pieces of framing, which means the doors are more susceptible to twisting/bowing”
“Our shed has thicker framing at 44x28mm thick. The Forest Outdoor Store shed is made of thin 28x28mm framing”
“Forest only have two hinges on each door (Apex Outdoor Store), ours has three to get the door extra support”
“The Forest Apex Store shed does not come with a lock, ours comes with a lock and key”
We do have to bear in mind that as a founder of Power, there’s a possibility of bias here. But it’s pretty clear, Jack knows what he’s on about when assessing the quality of wooden sheds.
When contacting Power, I received quick, helpful responses from several members of staff, so only have good things to say about their customer service!
For the small amount extra you pay for a Power shed compared to the Forest shed below, you’ll receive a much higher quality shed that can last up to 25 years if you take care on it properly.

If you’re looking for a sturdy, elegant bike shed that will keep your bikes out of sight, dry and secure, the Forest Large Outdoor Store is a good choice.
Whilst many wooden sheds will warp or rot when exposed to the elements, the Forest shed comes with a 15-year anti-rot guarantee.
This shows that this wooden bike shed has been designed to last and will provide bang for your buck.
After speaking with Jack from Power, I was keen to hear how Forest compares their shed to the Power Pent (featured above).
Kate who manages Forest’s PR said consumers should choose this Forest shed for the reasons shown below:
Unlike Power, the wood Forest use to create their products is FSC approved and comes from sustainably managed forests.
At the time of publishing this content, Kate informed me that the Forest Outdoor Store was cheaper on their website than the Power Pent shed on Power’s website.
“The Forest Outdoor Store is mounted on pressure treated bearers to stop it sitting on the ground in the wet”
The Forest Shiplap Outdoor Store has hidden door hinges for extra security
Two large double doors provide access to your bikes stored inside. The doors can be locked using the staple and hasp locking system on the front of the shed (padlock not included).
This locking system provides a decent level of security for your bikes.
The roof of this wooden bike shed is lined with a thick, water-repellent felt that will ensure your bikes stay dry inside.
Fits: 2-3 Adult Bikes
Assembly Time: 2 Hours
On top of all of this, the Forest Outdoor Store is made using high-grade FSC-approved wood, which shows this wood is from well-managed, sustainable tree farms.
Considering how reasonably priced this shed is and the impressive features it offers, it’s definitely one of the best wooden bike sheds out there.
It’s not as high-quality as the Power bike sheds, but it’s cheaper and can be found for sale at the most up-to-date price here [Amazon].
Best Bespoke Wooden Bike Sheds
Now, for those of you that are after the best quality wooden bike shed on the market, with bespoke customisable options, there are several options.
Two companies that I like and have proven to be very popular are Bluum and TheBikeShedCompany.
Whilst both of these companies aren’t as well known as Forest or Power, the quality of the sheds they provide easily surpasses these bigger brands.
I couldn’t decide between these companies as they offer very different products. Take a look for yourself!

Bluum bike sheds put a unique and refreshing spin on bike storage solutions. If you enjoy greenery want to promote nature around your house, this is the bike shed for you.
The roof of the Bluum shed provides its users with a space to plant seedum and other succulents. Store your bikes inside, then sit back and enjoy the view!
The standard Bluum bike shed is designed to keep your bikes out of the rain, however, Bluum sheds can be custom-built to fit your exact requirements and dimensions.
Lockable doors with high-strength hinges can be added. Alternatively, many Bluum owners install a Sheffield style bike rack or ground anchor to lock their bike to.
Assembly of a Bluum bike shed “should take the average DIY-er 15 less than 15 minutes”, so no need to worry about complicated instructions!
If you don’t want to lose the natural, green look of your front garden, but need a convenient place to store your bikes, you need a Bluum bike shed.
They also only use wood from sustainably managed sources (the majority of it being UK wood), making Bluum a more eco-friendly option.
You can find out more about Bluum sheds on their website here or on their website here.
TheBikeShedCompany - Pedal Base 3
A Cheaper Alternative to Power’s Sheds
Overall Score: 42/50
Today’s Best Deals:
External (Customisable)
Width: 79.5” Depth: 39.7” Height: 52.6″
External (Customisable)
Width: 202cm Depth: 101cm Height: 133.5cm
This is as premium as they come with wooden bike sheds.
The Pedal Base 3 is the most expensive shed featured in this review, however, it’s easily the best wooden bike shed on the market and one of the best looking too!
All of the timber used to create these beautiful sheds is responsibly sourced from UK forests, making them a sustainable choice.
The lid of the Pedal Base opens weightlessly with assistance from two powerful gas pistons.
Fits: 3 Adult Bikes
Installation Time: 2 Hours
If you want to store your cycling accessories in your bike shed, the Spokeshed 3 is a good option thanks to its large internal shelf.
TheBikeShedCompany offer multiple different shapes and sizes of shed, so have a look on their website and see if any of their sheds take your fancy.
If you need a shed made to fit a small space, just like Bluum, TheBikeShedCompany offer bespoke sheds that are made to fit your exact requirements.
The tongue and groove cladding TheBikeShedCompany use is 20mm thick and the doors are 50mm thick, making the Pedal Base 3 much more secure than other wooden sheds.
When locked the doors are held in place by two heavy-duty deadbolts.
This makes them almost impossible to pry open with a crowbar or other tooling, a vulnerability that cheap wooden bike sheds suffer from.
The Pedal Base can be painted in a wide range of colours, to suit your style and to help it match existing outdoor furnishings.
Installation is available with all of the sheds from TheBikeShedCompany.
Just remember, the premium materials and design of these impressive sheds does come at an increased cost.

The Best Metal Bike Sheds
Dancover Proshed Bike Storage
Great Accessibility, But Difficult to Build
Overall Score: 37 / 50
Today’s Best Deals:
Width: 75.2” Depth: 42.5” Height: 52″

Width: 191cm Depth: 108cm Height: 132cm
Internal
Width: 182.8cm Depth: 100cm Height: 128cm
The Dancover Bike Storage Proshed uses .25mm zinc-plated sheet walls, which are thin but will keep your bikes safe and dry whilst secured at home.
This is another tunnel style shed, which provides access to your bikes from the end rather than the side. Meaning this shed a good choice for those looking to store multiple bikes.
Two racks sit inside the Proshed, which keep your bikes off the floor. You’re also able to secure your bikes to the rack, locking them in place.
A larger version of this shed is available, which fits up to four bikes.
The 4 bike version is only slightly wider and provides easier access to your bikes than most other bike sheds.
Simply wheel your selected bike off its ramp and out of the spacious double doors.
The two steel doors the Proshed uses are secured with a cylinder lock, which provides a reasonable level of security for your bikes and helps keep pesky thieves out.
Both steel doors are reinforced with metal bars which prevent twisting or prying.
Fits: 2 Adult Bikes
Installation Time: 5-6 Hours
There isn’t an installation service available with this shed, so be prepared to erect it yourself. I contacted Dancover who informed me that it would take 4-5 hours to assemble.
This is longer than other sheds take to assemble. However, bear in mind the Proshed Bike Storage comes with a 10-year anti-corrosion warranty, so you won’t have to worry about this bike shed going rusty!
View the shed for 2 bikes here or for storing 4 bikes this is the larger model.
This metal bike shed isn’t as secure as the other metal sheds shown below, however, it’s slightly cheaper and provides more convenient storage for multiple bikes.
The Best Metal Bike Storage Shed
For those of you looking for the ultimate security, a metal bike shed is your best option.
If you worry about the security of your bikes at night, a metal bike shed can give you the reassurance needed for a better night’s sleep!
There are several companies in the UK that produce metal bike sheds, however I narrowed it down to two, Asgard and Trimetals.
These companies produce the best quality metal bike sheds on the market.
They both manufacture their bike sheds using the best quality materials avalible and have had their designs approved by insurance companies and security-related organisations.

When it comes to metal bike sheds I’m not the only one who thinks Asgard are the best of the best.
These award-winning sheds are built like Fort Knox. Security has been considered with every aspect of the Access 4’s design.
The Access 4 uses shrouded locking points. These make it virtually impossible for thieves to remove the two heavy-duty locks which hold its doors closed. (Locks not included).
An internal deadbolt also prevents unauthorised access, by keeping the 1.2mm heavy-gauge, galvanised steel doors firmly shut.
The Asgard Access 4 shed is your hub for everything bike. It provides enough space to store your helmets, locks and other cycling accessories.
If additional storage is required, Asgard offer accessories such as shelving units and hanging hooks, which are easily installed and work with the majority of their bike sheds.
Fits: 3-4 Adult Bikes
Installation Time: 3-4 Hours
This space for accessories means you’ll no longer be tripping over your cycling clutter. Instead keep it inside your shed for convenient access to all of your cycling gear.
To remove your bikes, simply raise the lid using the assisted opening gas pistons. Without effort, you’ll then be able to remove the bike and accessories you need.
Unlike cheap metal bike sheds the Asgard Access 4 doesn’t take days to assemble and comes with instructions which are easy to follow.
If you’d rather have someone assemble this metal bike shed for you, then there is a quick installation service available.
However, this bike storage shed is simple to assemble and the instructions are easy to follow. (see video above)
If you’d prefer a bike storage shed that offers better access to your bike, check out the full Asgard range here [Amazon].
This is easily one of the best all-round bike storage sheds on the market and will keep your bikes safe and secure whilst you’re away from them.
Several world champion cyclists use Asgard sheds to secure their top of the range bikes, so if you worry about your bike at night here’s your solution.

Trimetals produce some of the best and most popular bike sheds on the market. The Protect.a.Cycle is a top-quality metal shed that’s approved by police and is perfect for those who cycle daily.
This high-quality metal shed offers storage room for 2-3 bicycles. Once inside your bicycles will be kept dry and will be hidden securely from prying eyes.
The Protect.a.Cycle provides access to your bikes from the side using a large vertically sliding door. The door is spring-assisted, which makes accessing your bikes much less effort.
Two Sold Secure Silver Oxford disc locks are supplied upon purchase. These can be used to lock the doors using the two steel hasps located at the front of this metal bike shed.
Unlike the Asgard Access 4 bike shed, this shed doesn’t use shrouded locking points.
This means the Protect.a.Cycle is slightly less secure, but these locks will still put up a good fight against all forms of attack.
If you’d like to upgrade the security, simply purchase a more secure set of disc locks.
This shed is “Secured By Design Approved” which means it uses a specification approved by British Police.
Fits: 2-3 Adult Bikes
Installation Time: 4 Hours
A version of the Protect.a.Cycle is also available with a foldable ramp, which makes storage easier for cyclists with heavier bikes or e-bikes.
The panels of this shed are guaranteed to last for 25 years and like the Asgard Access 4 they require zero maintenance.
A good quality ground anchor is included in the price, along with all of the fixings you’ll need to set this shed up.
Assembling the Protect.a.Cycle is straightforward, compared to the Dancover which is much harder to wrap your head around.
All in all, the Protect.a.Cycle is the runner-up in my list of the best metal bike sheds. This is due to the lower level of security it offers compared to Asgard’s bike storage sheds.
You can view the Protect.a.Cycle here at a very reasonable price here [BuyShedsDirect].
The Best Bike Shed for E-Bikes
With the expansion of the e-Bike industry, e-Bike owners now require somewhere secure and watertight to store and charge their expensive investments.
It’s no good having an e-Bike if you have to bring it into the house to charge, leaving dirty trails across your nice clean floors!
Or having to remove the large heavy battery pack from your bike, carry it inside and remember to put it on charge.
Also due to their value e-Bikes are commonly targeted by thieves. Some thieves have been known to follow cyclists home, taking a note of where they live.
This means you need a bike shed that provides top-tier security and a reliable power supply to keep your wheels turning.
Plastic and Wood aren’t secure enough. So again, we turn to the best metal bike shed manufacturer, Asgard.

Internal

The Access E Plus Bike Storage is easily the best e-Bike shed on the market. This is essentially a wider version of the Access 4 bike shed.
The increased width of this shed offers space for larger e-Bikes (including fat-wheeled e-bikes) and for your all of your cycling accessories. Essentially making this metal bike shed, your cycling hub.
Storing all of your cycling equipment in one place means you won’t have to spend hours searching for the bike pump, or for that spare inner tube that you bought months back.
Your equipment will also benefit from unrivalled protection whilst stored inside the E Plus Bike Storage Shed.
A heavy-duty deadbolt holds the two lockable doors in place, preventing prying or twisting of the structure.
Vent holes in the side of the shed will allow air circulation inside. This prevents a build-up of condensation, preventing corrosion and deterioration of your expensive bikes.
Asgard don’t fit or supply the power socket for this shed, but a local electrician will do this for an affordable price.
Fits: 3 Adult E Bikes
Installation Time: 3-4 Hours
Due to this sheds increased width it can accommodate for 29er mountain bikes other larger bikes, whilst still providing storage room for your cycling accessories.
If you’re looking for a bomb-proof bunker to protect your costly electric bicycles, the Access E Plus is the best bike shed for you.
This metal shed has proven to be a popular choice with my readers so far and is available here at a very competitive price [BuyShedsDirect].

Best DIY Bike Storage Sheds (DIY Bike Shed Plans)
If you’re up to the challenge of building your own bike shed, but don’t quite know where to get started there are several books available online at a reasonable price.
These books have received good feedback, I haven’t read them in detail, but had a look through their pages and they do provide many helpful tips and ideas.
If you’re new to the wonderful world of DIY, these are a better place to start than “just going for it”. They’ll teach you the basics and set you up with the skills you’ll need to put together your own bike shed.
My Dad and I were able to build my DIY bike shed in just over four days. Arguably in terms of time, this costs more than any of the bike sheds above.
But my DIY bike shed fits my exact dimension requirements, was built sustainably using reclaimed and second-hand materials and has been built to last.
Black and Decker have a great complete shed building guide, definetley good for DIYers.
Creative Homeowners sell the Ultimate Guide to Barns, Sheds and Outbuildings.
And the well-known publisher Haynes have a manual on Garden Sheds.
Again, I haven’t read these in details, but they will be of assistance to those who aren’t as experienced with DIY.
If you’re choosing to build your own shed, I wish you the best of luck with your creation! Feel free to send me images of your finished work and I’ll include them in this review as inspiration for others.

Bike Shed Bases/Foundations
Depending on the bike shed you decide upon, you may need to use a foundation for your shed to sit on.
Each bike shed is slightly different and needs to be stored in a different way. Reading the manufacturer description is the best way to figure out if you’ll need a shed base.
Suitable foundations for garden storage sheds include:
- Stone paved areas
- Gravel flooring
- Concrete foundations
- Wooden platforms
- Plastic base kits
By keeping your bike shed elevated off the ground you’ll increase its life span. If a wooden bike shed is placed directly on wet grass it will become saturated with water.
Saturated wood will begin to rot quickly, meaning it won’t be long before you need a replacement shed.
Metal and plastic sheds will also last longer and perform better if installed upon a solid foundation.
Conclusion – The Best Bike Shed
So there you have it, the best plastic, wood and metal bike sheds on the market.
Whilst I recommend the sheds above, these might not be the best bike shed for your situation.
Every cyclist has slightly different requirements, so shop around and make sure the shed you choose will work with the space you have.
Normally, cheap and cheerful bike sheds are harder to assemble than the better quality sheds. This is because they come in smaller parts, which take more time and effort to put together.
Whilst many of these sheds can be secured and locked from the outside, I’d advise you to secure your bikes inside your shed of choice.
A good quality ground anchor will allow you to secure your bikes inside the shed, making it extremely difficult for thieves to remove them.
Alongside a ground anchor, a quality chain lock will provide an easy way to secure multiple bikes at once.
Thanks for reading and remember, lock it or lose it.
Ciao for now!
