Until the recent introduction of the Sold Secure Diamond bike lock rating, Sold Secure had a three-tier rating system.
Originally this was made up of Sold Secure Bronze, Sold Secure Silver & Sold Secure Gold.
Of these ratings Sold Secure Bronze was the lowest that a bike lock/bicycle security product could receive.
Sold Secure Gold was the highest rating and was, therefore, the rating which the majority of manufacturers aimed for with their products.
As more and more companies had their locks tested, the Sold Secure Gold category became crowded which caused confusion amongst cyclists.
With the recent introduction and boom in the E-bike market, it’s important that cyclists are able to distinguish which are the best bike locks on the market.
Just because two locks bear the same Sold Secure rating doesn’t mean they offer exactly the same level of security for your bike!
By the end of this short article, you’ll understand what Sold Secure Diamond means, and will be able to view a comparison table comparing every Sold Secure Diamond lock!
I’ll also suggest a few of the best Diamond rated locks for anyone looking for a top-rated bike lock.
What Does Sold Secure Diamond Mean?
The Sold Secure Diamond category comprises the best bike locks on the market.
These top rated bike locks offer incredible levels of security for your bike and are some of the strongest bike locks.
I spoke with Guy McCafferey the Sold Secure Lab manager, who let me know what the Sold Secure Diamond means:
“Sold Secure Diamond Products offer attack resistance against a higher complete tool list (aimed at preventing the highest motivated attacks)”.
For comparison, the Sold Secure Gold rating offers: “theft resistance against a higher selected tool list (aimed at preventing dedicated attacks)”
From this, we can take that Sold Secure Gold & Diamond locks both offer very high levels of security.
Both of these security ratings are awarded to locks that offer great levels of protection. But, if you want the best bike lock possible, choose a diamond rated lock from the list above.
