The Oopsmark U Lock holster is a high quality universal bike lock mount designed for use with U locks (D locks). I reached out to Oopsmark who were happy for me to produce an Oopsmark U lock holster review.
If you’ve been looking for a reliable & stylish way to transport your bike locks whilst cycling, keep reading.
Below I’ll let you know how the Oopsmark works, which bike locks it’s suitable for and where you can find it at the most affordable price.

About the Oopsmark U Lock Holster
Hand-made in Montreal using naturally tanned leather, the Oopsmark U lock Holster is a universal U lock (D lock) mount with style.
The naturally tanned leather the Oopsmark U Lock Holster utilises is vegetable tanned. Vegetable tanning doesn’t use harsh, toxic chemicals and produces a high-quality finish and leather that will last.
It’s always nice to come across a company who manufacture their products without cutting corners.

Which Bike Locks Does the Oopsmark U Lock Holster Work With?
The Oopsmark Holster works with U locks that are from 4.5-5.5” wide. This means that the Oopsmark doesn’t accommodate for as many locks as the Huldit Bike Lock Holder, but will still be able to transport the majority of standard D locks.
It’s worth noting that the Oopsmark Mount Doesn’t work with locks from the Kryptonite New York Range. If you’re looking for a mount for one of these locks, check out the Huldit.

You shouldn’t use locks that weigh over 5.5lbs (2kg) with the Oopsmark U-Lock Holster as this will cause the leather to stretch and wear out more quickly.
To find out if the Oopsmark is suitable for your bike lock, get a tape measure or ruler and measure the width across the shackle of your bike lock (see images above for example of measurements).
How to Attach the Oopsmark U Lock Holster to Your Bike?
It’s very simple to attach the Oopsmark Holster to your bike. This can be done in one of two ways. You can attach the Oopsmark Holster to your pannier, or to the rear of your saddle.

Attaching the Oopsmark Hostler to Your Saddle
To attach the Oopsmark Holster to your saddle you’ll need a couple of bike saddle tabs. These can be purchased here from the Oopsmark website and will work with any regular saddle with two mounting tubes.
Some retro bike saddles come with built-in tabs, so check your bike before buying new ones!
Once you’ve got these tabs, attach them to the underside of your saddle facing outwards, as shown in the picture below.

From here, you’ll want to fully loosen the straps from your Oopsmark Holster. Next, thread the straps back through the smaller opening in the holster, and then back through the larger opening.
Once the Holster is in place on the back of your saddle, run the straps down to the break ridge (small beam which your rear break sits on).
Finally, pulling the straps tight, get the two small screws (supplied in the box) and push them through the holes in both sides of the strap.

After tightening the hexagonal bolts, your Oopsmark U Lock Holster will be in place.
If you get confused along the way, watch the video above for extra guidance.
Attaching the Oopsmark Hostler to Your Pannier
Attaching the Oopsmark Holster to your pannier is another great option. This is the way I mount my locks when using the Oopsmark Holster as it keeps your lock slightly more out of the way.
Attaching your Oopsmark Holster is done in a similar way to the saddle.
After fully removing the straps from your Oopsmark U Lock Holster, run the over the top of your saddle and back down through the narrow slit in the Holster.

From here thread the straps down through the larger hole just beneath the narrow slit and pull until taught.
Now run the straps down towards the bottom of your pannier where it attaches to your bike. After looping them securely around your pannier, use the two small nuts to firmly hold your Oopsmark mount in place.
Easy!

How Much Does the Oopsmark U Lock Holster Cost?
Considering the Oopsmark Holster is handmade, using naturally tanned leather and finished to the highest quality, I think it’s sold at a reasonable price.
The Oopsmark isn’t as cheap as the Huldit Bike Lock Mount, but it’s made from much nicer materials and looks the part on any retro bike.

Using the Oopsmark U Lock Holster
Once attached, the Oopsmark U Lock holster works a dream. It provides quick and easy access to your bike lock whilst you’re out and about. It also keeps your bike lock out of the way whilst cycling.
The great thing about the Oopsmark Holster is that it doesn’t require any straps or velcro to hold your bike lock in place. Simply slide your lock in when cycling and out when locking up. No fiddling required!
Most bike lock mounts out there are cheap and nasty! When using a cheap mount, your bike lock will rattle whilst cycling & may even scratch your bike.

Fortunately, the Oopsmark is completely silent whilst riding and the soft, durable leather won’t scratch your paintwork.
The only downside of the Oopsmark Holster is that you need a pannier or bike seat tabs installed on your bike to be able to use it.
Most bikes will have one of these already, but if not either can be purchased cheaply online.
Summary - Oopsmark U Lock Holster Review
If you already use leather accessories (e.g. leather saddle or bar tape) or prefer a more vintage/rustic style of bike the Oopsmark U Lock holster will work well for you.
It’s straightforward to set up and once it’s attached, the Oopsmark U lock Holster will hold your bike lock securely in place whilst you’re riding.
The high quality naturally tanned leather and stainless metal that the Oopsmark mount uses, mean it will last even when left exposed to the elements.

As mentioned above, the only downside I found with the Oopsmark U Lock Mount was that you need a pannier or seat tabs installed on your bike before being able to attach it.
If your bike lock is over 5.5” wide, your best bet will be the Huldit U lock mount, which comes in different sizes and has an adjustable strap (unlike the Oopsmark).
Otherwise, check out some of your other alternatives in my review of the 8 best bike lock mounts.
Apart from that I’ve enjoyed using the Oopsmark and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.
